All nine puppies were beautiful, but there was something special about little Madison. But Madison is just one of the thousands of animals that need the SPCA's help. Our vet teams, Hospital staff and animal attendants work to rehabilitate and re home the animals that come into the SPCA. SPCA Auckland CEO Andrea Midgen feels extremely privileged to head Auckland’s leading animal welfare agency and will continue to build on the strong reputation and sustainability of the organisation.
Andrea is an experienced executive with a corporate background holding various senior roles in finance, business integration and change programs, strategy and customer service. Over the past three years, 25,00 cats and kittens have arrived at SPCA Auckland and these areas contribute significantly to the thousands of kittens and cats who arrive at SPCA Auckland each year. Interacting with animals has been shown to reduce stress and fears that come with illness and age. We are the only charity with the power to protect all animals including prosecuting people under the Animal Welfare Act 199. We work with the community to prevent cruelty and encourage the humane treatment of all animals. Our SPCA Auckland Inspectors work on the front line seven days a week, 365 days a year, rescuing animals who have been in an accident, abused or abandoned. Last year SPCA Auckland Inspectors attended over 700 emergencies and responded to over 7,00 call outs to rescue animals across the Auckland region. SPCA Inspectors are on call 7 days a week, 365 days a year ensuring the protection of Auckland’s animals. The SPCA Auckland hospital is the first stop for all animals that come in to the Village. 5 million to fund our hospital team, and provide life saving medical care to all animals in need. Animal welfare investigations Last year our team of Inspectors investigated 3,128 animal welfare complaints across the Auckland region. Education and advice In many cases our Inspectors are able to work with the community to ensure the right outcome for an animal. Compliance orders and written warnings Sometimes we need to provide more support with specific guidance or support materials to help people meet their obligations. SPCA Inspector Peggy Link was called to Great South Vets after a kitten with a severely diseased eye was brought in for desexing. Our animal team and volunteers work hard to ensure that every animal finds the best forever home for them. Adopting a new family member is a big decision, as it is a commitment to care for that animal for the rest of its life. SPCA Auckland works with the community to prevent cruelty and encourage the humane treatment of all animals. This means rescuing animals in need, providing medical care, and love and shelter for them at our animal village in Mangere. Here at SPCA Auckland we do everything we can to ensure that all animals in the Auckland region from Wellsford to Port Waikato are being looked after. Like you, we want everyone in our area to know how to look after their animals and give them the love and respect they deserve. The act has been under review and we have been working hard to achieve real change through improved welfare standards, which will ultimately improve the lives of animals across New Zealand. SPCA's new animal welfare education programme teaches compassion and responsible behaviour towards animals
